Inspiring Hearts and Minds

Athletics

BCHS strongly supports motivated students in their pursuit of their sport. We offer PE 9, PE10 and PE 20-30 courses and an extra-curricular athletics program. Our school teams perform well in local leagues, zones and have won provincial championships. We play volleyball, basketball, golf, rugby, badminton, cross country and track and field. We are grateful to the support of community coaches. Please contact our Athletic Director ian.higginbottom@crps.ca for further details.

There are academic, attitude and attendance expectations required to participate in an extra-curricular sport offered by the school and students are required to follow the Bears Athletic Code.

Outside school our students are actively engaged in the Bow Valley and beyond in a variety of sports such as Alpine and Nordic Skiing, Judo, Gymnastics, Dance, Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball and Golf. They have achieved regional, provincial or national team status.

BCHS also offers a recreational intramural sport program during lunch times through the year in different sports inviting all students from Grades 9 to 12 to take part in mixed ability and mixed grade teams.  Two highlights of our school physical activity calendar is encouraging an appreciation of living in the mountains with our annual Hike Day in September and the annual Turkey Trot at Thanksgiving now in its 50th year.

Click here for a calendar of sport team programs offered by our school.  Extra fees for each sport will be required but we are more than generously supported by the Wim and Nancy Pauw Foundation to keep costs low for students. Each sport has female and male teams and may travel extensively on weekends. According to Alberta Schools Athletic Assocation guidelines students may participate in the team of the gender they identify with through their high school years.
