Our guidance counsellor at BCHS supports all students as they explore their post secondary education options. In the Fall we host the 'Education Liaison Association of Alberta' post secondary institution fair and our students can also visit the Out of Province post secondary fair at CCHS. Students should also keep an eye on information shared in the school about Open Days.
Timelines
October 1 - January 31: Apply to schools; update marks; Apply before Dec.1 for university scholarships
September - November: Apply for national scholarships
February and July send transcripts

Personal Profile Statements
UBC and Queens and Waterloo Engineering. U of T now requires personal statements as part of the admissions process. Applications are considered incomplete without them. In some cases a video interview may be required. Please answer thoroughly as students with high marks may be rejected based upon their incomplete responses. Consider using a Zeemee account. This is a self marketing tool
Deferring Admission
Some post secondary institutions allow deferred entry up to one year. The student cannot attend any other post secondary institution. Each institution sets their own policies regarding deferrals. Please see the side bar for examples for U of Victoria and UBC. Some other schools like U of Calgary do not accept deferrals. Students have to reapply for the following year and may risk losing their acceptance if the GPA has increased for the desired field of study in the desired year of entry.
Studying in the USA
Most universities in the USA require a standardized exam writing score such as SAT or an ACT. Each college and university sets their own range of scores that they accept.
The Common Application allows a student to apply to 400 different colleges in the USA otherwise each individual school manages their own enrolments. Tuition fees varies widely from U$15 000 - $80 000 for tuition. Make sure you have healthcare insurance for the USA.
Private Schools
Private schools offer different types of programming and/or program delivery. As the name suggests they are for profit institutions and maybe considerably higher in cost because they receive no or little public funding. Here are some samples of programming:
